Τhis interactive exhibition combined and included exhibits, photographic material, documentaries, short and feature films, lectures and workshops in an especially designed hall, inspired by the aesthetics of expressionism. The medieval hall of Kastelliotissa, was transformed into a large cinematic "Film Set - Plateau", inspired by German expressionism and will offered a unique experience to its visitors.
The exhibition aimedd to relate the past with the present, putting emphasis on the significant influence of the movement to the future development of cinema, television, comics and contemporary pop culture. From Orson Wells and Alfred Hitchcock, up until Tim Burton and Guillermo Del Toro. What does Metropolis hold in common with Blade Runner, BATMAN and SINCITY? German expressionism in cinema, has left its unique mark. It has left a shadow on nearly all the genres of cinema that followed, and one can identify the aesthetics, histories, and characters that came alive on the big screen, almost a century ago.
Posters, exhibits, photographs, drawings, notes from the Deutsche Kinematek museum in Berlin, alongside interesting audiovisual material, which were created specifically for this exhibition took the visitor on a ride through the fascinating world of German expressionism.
