The exhibition presents all seventy-four bronze sculptures by Edgar Degas featuring “The Little Dancer, Aged Fourteen.” The sculptures are from the collection of the M.T. Abraham Center for the Visual Arts which graciously loaned the bronzes to the Evagoras and Kathleen Lanitis Foundation for this special exhibition.
All the bronzes in this exhibition were cast from recently discovered plasters made from Degas’ original waxes either during his lifetime or shortly after his death. Thus scholars, researchers and the general public will be able to more accurately evaluate Degas' working techniques and skills, placing him, along with Auguste Rodin, as the preeminent sculptor of his time. The exhibition will also feature an 1872 pencil drawing by Edgar Degas, “Horses and Riders,” on loan from the George Economou Collection in Athens.
