Theodoulos Gregoriou, Mental Geography-Constellations

Each of the different works presented in this exhibition under the title ‘Géométrie Mentale-Constellations’ makes up a highly structured whole reflecting the work of Theodoulos Grégoriou, who, after studying art at the :::: school in Bucharest, laid the foundations in the 1980s for a plastic vocabulary already oscillating between the 2nd and3rd dimensions (see the work ‘METAPLASIS’ 1980). This work is also guided by the desire to perpetuate the time when the artist was not yet distinguished from the scientist. In order for his mental constructions, imbued with aesthetics, metaphysics and cosmogonies, to be intelligible to us, we must first understand that this installation is a mental and aesthetic proposition enunciated by an artist whose method of reflection is at once that of an artist, an architect and an alchemist. Consequently, we must first try to decipher the artist's sense of reading and orientation in his own cosmos. This mapping, which maps out complex spatio-temporal multiplicities, requires the viewer to take both a mental approach based on history, and a sensory approach based on empirical interpretation (see the work ‘CELLS - ENGOMI’ 2008)…’
