The exhibition is organised within the framework of the celebrations of the International Day for Monuments and Sites of ICOMOS. The famous ‘Magnum Photos’ is a photographic co-operative comprised by distinguished photographers. As such, it is characterised by the vision and insight of these different artists, the photographs of which compose a chronicle for the entire world. Their photographs interpret human nature, personalities, everyday events, politics, but also disasters and conflict. Based in New York, London, Paris and Tokyo, ‘Magnum Photos’ contributes the dissemination and promotion of these photographs to the press and the media, galleries and museums across the world.
This exhibition, given the role of ‘Magnum Photos’ in the art of photography, and the recording of important moments in history, the society and nature, aims at highlighting the relationship between specific photographers of this organisation and ancient monuments throughout Europe, including Cyprus. The unique insight into the sphere of archaeological heritage, as this is presented in these works of art, creates another context for these monuments, across time and space, as they become eternal within a different perspective.
